Polish fighter Karolina Kowalkiewicz and American Felice Herrig will step into the Octagon at UFC 223 on April 7 in a fight that could signify big changes to the division.

After winning the 125-pound title of the European promotion KSW, Karolina Kowalkiewicz reached the Invicta FC promotion with a record of 5-0, on November 1 of 2014, in her debut she faced the veteran of the strawweight division Mizouke Inoue. Karolina emerged champion of this challenge, proving that she could also be in the 115-pounds division. Months later she beat prospect Kalindra Farias, in what was the stellar fight of KSW 30: Genesis. In 2015 she signed with the promoter UFC, where she managed to spin 3 victories, arriving to his fourth fight to challenge the champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk, who she managed to send to the canvas in the fourth round, but with whom in the end she would lose via unanimous decision, thus marking the first defeat of Kowalkiewicz as a professional. In 2017, Claudia Gadelha bested her with a first-round submission and months later she won via unanimous decision to Jodie Esquivel.

For her part, Felice Herrig came to the UFC through reality TUF, where she was defeated in her first fight against Randa Markos, but still managed to sign with the UFC. Felice career didn’t show much highlights but after getting two victories in a row (last one against Mexican prospect Alexa Grasso) she admitted to being aware she had been doing something wrong, and promised to show us a new Felice. These words she has been solidly backing with her four wins in a row, and with the first opportunity in her career to be considered for a title fight.

In this fight we will see a Felice who after years of work wants to make good of her efforts and look for an opportunity for the title, while in the opposite corner we will see a Karolina that wants to show she is part of the elite of the division and that although she has had two defeats there, she is still a strong title contender.
