To the UFC roster has arrived Miranda «Fear the» Maverick, who has everything to quickly put herself as a strong contender to the title, this young prospect has currently a 5 victory winning streak and a record of 8-2 inside the world’s most important female promotion in Invicta FC.
This saturday she will be making her debut in the card headlined by the lightweight championship fight and before all of this happens, we could speak with her.
Max: You’re a former Invicta fighter, now a UFC fighter, you have a double major degree in psychology and sociology a Phd in psychology as well, Could you tell us who is Miranda Maverick?
Miranda: Right now i’m actually pursuing my Phd, i have a couple more years left i’m about to get my masters in it but it’s industrial psychology so business psychology basically, aside from that pretty much all i do right now is train um it’s kind of an odd thing to be going to school and being a professional fighter at the same time it keeps me busy but that’s what, i do i grew up on a farm so i’m more of a country girl at heart i guess you’d say and right now i live out in virginia training and going to school.
Luis: How it was for you to have a school life and also a sporting career doing both of them in a high level?.
Miranda: It’s been very rough like it’s hard to schedule things i’m busy all the time but it’s worth it i’ll have not only a backup once i get them with mma but hopefully have a good future in mma as well.
Max: You enter a tournament where you fought three times in a single night tell us about the experience of a high level tournament at just 22 years of age please.
Miranda: That was actually amazing it was a great experience i got to kind of show my skills within one night amongst the entire division instead of working my way up through the whole year i think it progressed me very quickly but it was also very difficult on the nerves and the emotional and mental state of everything because of how rushed you were you couldn’t really be prepared for just one opponent and then the fact that you only have 30 minutes between each fight so it was just getting out there trying not to get hurt and win the fight and go on.
Luis: You’re on a five victory is winning a streak the last two of them against a huge name this streak led you to the short list of the invicta title contender but now this same streak has earning you a chance to something bigger what does it mean to you to be a such an important prospect.
Miranda: I’m very excited that i and this new prospect in the ufc i’ve been hoping to get pulled up even sooner than i did the friendly invictus title came available uh tobit happened so i wasn’t able to fight for that anytime soon and the ufc ended up calling me up instead so i’m really excited for this opportunity
Max: You were scheduled to debut a couple of months ago against mara borella as you told us due to medical reasons your debut was postponed and now you will be flying to abu dhabi to fight on Yas island how would how it was were you adapting to this huge change.
Miranda: Well i wish i would have been able to fight that first time but um unforeseen circumstances ended up happening where that wasn’t possible um with an injury i didn’t know about um but i i’m excited that this ended up being my start instead i feel like everything happens for a reason i think this is a really good matchup for me and i’m definitely excited that it’s on one of the biggest cards of 2020 with Khabib and Justin Gaethje being the headliner i’m really excited to be there.
Luis: You are fighting now a big prospect in Liana Jojua in the acclaimed fight island how did you visualize the fight? do you want to make a statement on saturday?
Miranda: Of course i want to make a statement i want to put kind of the whole flyweight division on notice that i’m young i’m coming for all of them and i’m wanting to be ranked as soon as possible i want to climb that ladder and make Dana and all the officials with the ufc see that i’m kind of the new deal i’m wanting to go in there and show that i’m well-rounded in every aspect my striking my jiu jitsu my wrestling all of it and that i can put it all on the line anytime i need to do.
Max: You feel this fight is different from your other fights? Is there some extra pressure for Miranda «Fear the» Maverick?
Miranda: I always put a lot of pressure on myself i wouldn’t say there’s extra pressure but now you know it’s been even longer and the ufc has been taking care of me during the wait so i want to make them proud, i’m honored to be on this bigger card and get even more exposure than i would have previously in vegas so i want to show my stuff when i go out there with the sun.
Luis: Is there anything you would like to say to your fans the people that already support you and the upcoming fans before this fight?
Miranda: Oh just thank you you know thank you for all the support and sticking through even uh even when i have like setbacks and things like that um make sure you watch on espn plus this next flight on october 24th and if you want to support me just message me on any of the social media buy a shirt from me for the fight.
