Time to Fear The Maverick: Miranda Maverick interview UFC 258

UFC’s womens divisions continue to grow and deepen itselves in their majority, including flyweight division, the most recent to be added to the promotion, and as this sport continues to grow, young talent is added with goals and aspirations everytime they get in the cage to make a statement to everyone watching. That’s Miranda Maverick’s case, a young girl that with 23 years of age, made her debut at the big leagues at Yas Island, Abu-Dhabi, after medical injuries postponed this debut and she made quick work of Georgia’s Liana Jojua with an impresive cut on the nose that forced the referee to stop the fight. For Miranda that’s the past, now she will fight at UFC 258 focusing on Gillian Robertson, a canadian fighter with some fights on the promotion already and who was ranked at the top 15 of the flyweight division, in a fight that if she wins, Maverick will look forward to earn her place in the division and move up quickly on the rankings.

Before she steps up on the cage we spoke with Miranda about her debut in the UFC and her goals and objectives facing the canadian.

Max: «Speaking of your debut and not so many fighters have had the chance to debut on a pay-per-view event like you did at ufc 254 where you had the opportunity to show the world a part of what you’re capable of with a first-round stoppage victory against Liana Jojua, was it the experience you expected or envisioned?»

Miranda: «I wouldn’t say expected i didn’t expect to finish that way but i was hoping that i got the finish early in the fight, i did want to show more of my grappling mixed in with my wrestling and striking but i think showing my striking alone kind of changed some people’s minds about me and made them realize that i had more to my game than just the grappling»

Luis: «Another fight another pay-per-view event for you and with no time to wait now you are facing Gillian Robertson a former top 15 ranked fighter of the World how did you what did you expect about of such a fight and what do you feel would you get with a win at february 13? «

Miranda: «I think she’s fairly well-rounded i think her striking lacks a little bit where her grappling takes over a little bit more she has a black belt in brazilian jiu jitsu but i’m also a brown belt and i feel like i have a lot better wrestling and top game than she does and i’m probably a little bit bigger and stronger than her as well so i look forward to going in there and making that a strength to my advantage and i look forward to making the striking advantage and also the grappling».

UFC 258 is going down this saturday and you can not miss the second fight of this great prospect’s journey.
